The Problem without Power

Image
The problem without power is very common in our urban areas in the Philippines. And the cost of having electricity is very high. An option to maximize the use of our resources is listed below. A hydro electric generator that is small for urban areas. Though it's small, it can be set up as a series for a nearby rivers and produce more electricity and be available to households nearby. Here is that option, Turbulent Hydro for small hydroelectric power generation for our small rural areas. The design can vary from 5KW to 15KW as of the time of writing and the design is simple to setup. And easy to maintain. Problem is, it's no way near in the Philippines. We haven't talked with the creators yet but creating such design can be used for DIY project for small villages. There might be some difficult challenges ahead but for now, we can only hope to have this. The intention of this writing is to only list the possible options. And this is one way. We can't rely much on ...

Making Compost at Home

Creating our own soil is a good way to start. It's a mixture of kitchen scraps and carbon materials like paper, cardboard and twigs. Well if you live in a small room, twigs might not be as accessible but papers, we have a lot of it. From our printables and our projects and paper works, we have lots of it and it's resources. So we don't need to throw it away. Best thing, we can do a compost bin indoor and make our own soil. Soil can then be used to for our flower vases and herbs inside our house. If it's big enough, then we can deposit it outside our garden. Here is a sample of how to do a compost bin indoor. Of course we need the materials. Maybe in the near future, we can make our own youtube channel to do our version of this kind of stuff. But for now, we'll work with what we have. Especially with what we can search immediately, available for us, that we can use right away. Anyway, materials used are just cooler drains and some totes. We plan on having a sm...

What Quarantine Makes of Us

Now that we have a pandemic on going. We develop a sense of urgency to make our urban areas sustainable. Here we first list our problems that we may solve later on with this blog posts. This is a blog for hopefully documenting what will we do in the future and what works and what doesn't and we'll make out of the situation. This is a work on progress so we don't have any solutions right. Thus we only list problems that we encounter and probably make adjustments as we go along this road of development. First problem would be food. In the Philippines, even though we are abundant on resources, we forgot how to grow food and make use of our lands. With the use of YouTube, we'll list some options we can in the future to further develop our urban areas. Here is an inspiring video of working on a small land to produce more than we can consume. So we can start with any small lands and work out which ever works with us. This brings us to another problem. What to plant w...
